Job description

Conexus are partnered with a leading European Utilities client on a long-term project. On that basis, we are seeking talented WAN Engineers to join the project on an initial 3-month contract, with high likelihood of extension for at least 2 years.

Our client is seeking a WAN Engineer to join the network department within the infrastructure product group. This role involves providing data centre services to other product teams through software solutions. The WAN Engineer will work closely with the network architect to implement the designed environment, translating technical requirements into actionable steps and documenting them within an agile framework.

The role involves re-engineering an MPLS WAN covering Germany and Belgium, which is built and managed internally by the project. The WAN Engineer will need extensive experience in MPLS network design and deployment, with a strong understanding of all MPLS-related technologies. This includes expertise in optimising the backbone, such as ISIS and BGP timer optimisation, route table optimisation, and RT/RD management.

The WAN Engineer will analyse and validate requirements, address any gaps or ambiguities, and facilitate quick resolutions to open questions. As this is a start-up environment, the ideal candidate should be comfortable taking on tasks outside their core competencies when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement the design into the target environment and document the setup thoroughly.
  • Regularly validate the network environment, ensure configurations are up to date, and report any necessary patches or adjustments to the network architect and delivery lead.
  • Communicate technical requirements clearly and collaborate effectively with other teams to address known risks and issues.
  • Manage workload according to priority and complexity, track progress, and proactively report risks, issues, and potential delays.
  • Adhere to established processes to ensure successful work, collaboration, and comprehensive documentation.

Candidate Profile:

  • At least 10 years in the networking space, with a strong hands-on engineering background and a minimum of 5 years of recent experience in WAN design and implementation.
  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas, designs, and documentation, including diagrams, in a professional manner.
  • Proven experience in designing and deploying MPLS WANs, ISP peering options (including BGP), and Public Cloud connectivity options (Azure, GCP). Familiarity with core MPLS technologies, including ISIS, LDP, BGP, L3VPN, OSPF, VXLAN, and Ethernet.
  • Experience with Cisco IOS-XE, Cisco NX-OS, Juniper (MX), Jira, Confluence, and Miro or similar tools.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken (minimum C1 level).
  • Experience with vyOS, Cisco ACI, Cisco Nexus, Juniper Apstra, Palo Alto, and client VPN technologies is a plus
