Software Engineer - AI Engineering Lead (AI-Assisted Development)
Location - Fully Remote
Contract Duration - 1 Year
We're supporting a leading organisation that is redefining how software is built through AI-assisted development. They are looking for a Software Engineer to take ownership of how AI is embedded into the engineering lifecycle, from coding standards through to delivery governance and developer enablement.
This is a hands-on role with real influence. You will not only build and review software, but also define how AI is safely and effectively used across engineering teams at scale.
The Opportunity
You will act as the technical lead for AI-assisted software development, shaping standards, tools, and practices across multiple engineering teams. Alongside this, you will work directly with engineers to build early AI-driven applications, helping teams move from experimentation to production-ready delivery.
This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, developer experience, and technical governance. It is ideal for someone who understands both the potential and the risks of AI in software delivery, and can bring structure to fast-moving adoption.
What You Will Be Doing
- Define and lead AI-assisted development standards across engineering teams
- Build and guide real applications using AI-driven workflows ("vibe coding" in practice)
- Establish guardrails for code quality, security, testing, and maintainability
- Evaluate and integrate tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and emerging AI IDEs
- Embed AI into CI/CD pipelines, code review processes, and day-to-day engineering workflows
- Coach engineers directly and improve output quality through hands-on guidance
- Create internal frameworks, prompt libraries, and reusable engineering patterns
- Run pilots and experiments to measure impact on delivery speed and quality
What They Are Looking For
- Strong software engineering background (5-10+ years) with production-grade delivery experience
- Proven experience building real applications, not just prototypes
- Hands-on use of AI coding tools in live engineering environments
- Strong programming ability in TypeScript, Python, or similar
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical delivery
- Strong understanding of system design, testing, and modern engineering practices
- Awareness of AI limitations, risks, and validation approaches
- Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and engineering governance
